Cook it Yourself!
While lots of troops made reservations at Hard Rock Cafe or Bubba Gumps, we made a stop at the Safeway near-by and walked to our hostel. We had kitchen facilities and refrigerator there and spent about $70 on dinner friday night, picnic stuff for Saturday and cereal for Sunday morning for the 10 of us. (Saturday breakfast was included in the price of a room at the hostel.)
We cooked and ate a delicious seafood ciopinno on Friday night with plenty of crusty sourdough bread and crab legs (that we got at Fisherman's Wharf) at the hostel then we walked back to Ghirardeli Square for a big ice cream sundae for $19..with 10 spoons for dessert!
Cheap - Delicious - Adventurous!
For dinner Saturday night we went to the Fune ya Japanese Sushi Boat Restaurant at 354 Clement Street. It was a recommendation from one of the young people who work at the hostel.
Beautiful plates of sushi floated past us on bamboo boats and we chose the ones that looked good to us.. Each girl had $5-6 to spend on whatever she wanted.. from exotic eel to banana and raspberry sushi! They also had homemade ramen if you didn't like sushi.
Off the Beaten Path
There were plenty of exotic looking things to try in Chinatown, we could have grazed from bakery to bakery but we were hungry!
We stopped for lunch Friday at Hong Kong Dim Sum. A little 2nd floor restaurant at 960 Grant Street. We sampled dozens of dishes and ate till we were stuffed for about $7 per girl including tax and tip. The girls were all adventurous eaters and we all had a great time trying something new!
