In the summer of 2017 I took a group of 14 girls and 4 adults to London, Paris and Switzerland. We really loved the 4 days we spent in Switzerland and visiting Our Chalet!

I’ll share the Switzerland portion here:

Day 9 Switzerland Tuesday July 18th

8am Breakfast

Train from Interlaken to Spiez to Mulenen.

If it’s a nice day and the mountain isn’t covered in clouds…In Mulenen take the Niesen Funicular (really cool mountain view!!), goes every half hour

Continue on to Frutigen by train and #230 Bus  to Adelboden, get out at Adelboden OEY. That is closer to Our Chalet. There is a little bakery there where we would turn to go to Our Chalet, we can get a quick lunch there.

OR if we didn’t go up to Mt Niesen, Explore Adelboden Town and have lunch Ristorante Alfredo, 3715 Adelboden  Tel .: 033 673 19 40

it’s about a 30 minute hike to Our Chalet from Adelboden.

Take the Woodcarver’s Hike in the afternoon (1 1/2 hours) leave Our Chalet by 3pm

Trummer GmbH Woodcarving Blattiweg 11 3715 Adelboden  Switzerland(we go through Cholerenschlucht Gorge where a metal walkway will take you up through the fascinating rock formations and waterfalls.) hike along quiet lanes with lovely views of the valley. At the Woodcarver’s you can view and purchase a range of beautiful hand carved objects, including many items specific to Our Chalet, and get your name burned into the wood for a souvenir of your visit. We will visit the neighbouring Café Blatti for a slice of delicious lemon cake and a Swiss hot chocolate. About 45 minutes from woodcarver through gorge to the bus stop and back down to Spiez.

Day 10 Switzerland Wednesday July 19th

8am breakfast

take the train to Spiez.

Explore Spiez – Medieval town with a castle.

Boat Trip on Lake Thun & visit Oberhofen Castle (model for the palace in Frozen!)

Continue to Interlaken

Explore Interlaken

6pm Take a class about Swiss Chocolate see how Pralinés and Truffles and molded chocolates are made. Grand Café Restaurant Schuh Höheweg 56 3800 Interlaken  Tel: +41 33 888 80 50

Dinner in Interlaken.

Day 11 – Switzerland Thursday July 20th

7:45 breakfast

8.30am Pick up at our hostel Alpin White Water Rafting on Lutschine River  

The girls just need swimsuit and a towel – They will give us wet shoes, wetsuits, & lifejackets action packed white water adventure, which finishes with a smooth paddle out to the Lake of Brienz. 3.5 hours round trip from Interlaken

at the end of the trip, while enjoying a snack of bread, Swiss cheese and drinks.

Return to the hostel and have time to enjoy the lake at the hostel in the afternoon. Andrea is our lifeguard, all adults will help watch. There are rafts and a dock available at the hostel and shallow water for swimming.

Day 12 – Switzerland Friday July 21st

7am travel to Alpnachstad by bus takes 1:00 hour, eat breakfast on the bus (stow luggage in the bus), catch the tram at 8:10 to Mt. Pilatus and back at 10:10 by boat to Lucerne arrive in Lucerne at 11:17 am. BUT IF it’s fogged in that morning we will go to Lucerne for the day.

12:15 Swiss folk restaurant, Stadtkeller 3 hour lunch includes folk songs, flag throwing, local instruments like the alphorn, yodeling and dancing. Special Swiss fondue meal cheese, meat and chocolate fondue trio.

Walking tour of Lucerne churches, walk across the Chapel Bridge and see the Lion Monument, get in our bus around 4:30 and Travel to Zurich (45 minutes) drop bags at the hostel, dinner downtown, nice walking tour of the center “old town”

Day 13 Travel Day Saturday July 22 from Zurich to Los Angeles.

7am breakfast

Airport is about 30 minutes from the hotel. Plan to eat and leave by 8am.

Depart Zurich at 10:35am arrive in Atlanta 2:53 (go through customs there), leave for Los Angeles at 5:40pm, arrive at 7:45pm!

Sureride Shuttle will pick us up at 8:15 at Delta in LAX and take us back to Old Town San Diego estimated arrival 11pm (will call parents and let them know as we get close).
