Each year for Thinking Day we celebrate the sisterhood of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world which includes 10 million girls in 146 countries. It’s exciting to think about all those girls trying to make the world a better place just like you are! Each year the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) chooses a theme for Global Action. In 2017 the theme was “Increasing Girls’ Access to Education.” In many parts of the world it’s hard for girls to get to school and to get access to education. Maybe you can help think of ways to change that. Each year you can earn the Global Action Award by thinking about and maybe taking action on a project that addresses the theme. It’s an official national award, so you can wear it on the front of your vest or sash, just like a badge. Many troops, service units and councils make the WAGGGS theme and earning the Global Action Award part of their annual Thinking Day observance. Maybe you’d like to try that too!
When Girl Scouts travel they look for a mission or a purpose for their trip. You might find that one of the ideas in the Global Action Award gives you an idea of something meaningful that you might explore on your next troop journey.
