Grocery Store Tourism
Touring a grocery store can be a wonderful way to explore local culture, give you (quite literally) a taste of foods and spices and offers a unique understanding of a country and its people. It’s also a great way to stock up for an inexpensive picnic or snacks to try while on the road. Local treats make wonderful souvenirs and are fun to bring back home to share with family and friends! I have always loved trying new foods when I’m travelling and I enjoy getting the spices or hard to find ingredients to bring home to recreate those dishes. Exploring a local market is an interesting thing to do with your troop on a rainy day. Note the differences from markets back home, look at things like toothpaste and shampoo and the unusual fruits and vegetables. You might be surprised what you can learn!
