The Influence Award – Remake project

One Idea – “The Golden Eaglet” (1918) In the early days of girl scouting Juliette Gordon Low used the storytelling power of moving pictures to get the word out about the benefits of bringing girls together for leadership, fun and sisterhood.

Taking inspiration from The Golden Eaglet, promote your own Girl Scout experiences by scripting and putting together a similar short film or powerpoint, using video, photos or other media. Share it with other community groups or girl scout troops or with some girl scout friends and with us in the comments below.

Another idea – Create your own remake project.

Maybe you want to…

  • ban stereotypes in a popular prime-time TV show. You could storyboard or script your own episode and you I could share it with students in a media studies class at your school or a local college. And you could also try I sending it to the original producers.
  • stop fashion spreads of unrealistic models. You could create your own real-life spread using real-life models, and share it with a group of younger girls so they can gain a better view of what “beautiful” really means. And then you could send it to the magazine’s fashion editors, too.
  • a blockbuster movie is way too violent or sexist, or just doesn’t show women in real-life ways. You could use the “movie trailer” format, remake the story line, and then I post it online for others to see!
  • change an ad or ad campaign to debunk unhealthy body image myths, expose false claims and useless products, or address a harmful advertising-related issue you’ve found in your community. You could create a PSA to counteract any of the above and get it aired on your local TV station.
  • rewrite a popular song that’s with loaded with negative or anti- women lyrics. You could write your own version and get some air-time for it or pass it around online, and send it original writer and performer.
  • create a new soundtrack for an existing movie, TV show, or commercial because you think the original sends the wrong message. You could combine various kinds of music (classical, techno, pop, country…) to create your new soundtrack, one that changes the mood entirely.

Please share your remake project in the comments. What did you do? Can you share it with us?

The song I chose to remake is blurred lines. It is a song talking about a woman described as a object.
Everybody get up
Everybody get up (hey, hey, hey)
Turn it up, let the whole room hear
If you feel what I’m sayin’, come here
Different stories, different minds
But we’re all shining in our own time

You’re not something to tame or claim
You’re powerful, wild in the best way
No one owns you, you choose your way
Confidence looks good on you today

I know you feel it
Yeah, you feel it
That energy, it’s real and true
You’re a good soul
Strong and bold
Being yourself looks great on you

No blurred lines, we speak it clear
Respect and trust is why we’re here
Stand your ground, take up space
Every body, every face

What do they make dreams for?
To chase them, not to fit a mold
Why do we need rules for
How confidence should look or be told?

You don’t owe the world a thing
You shine just being you
Lift each other, let freedom ring
That’s the real vibe, that’s the truth

I know you feel it
Yeah, you feel it
Self-love in everything you do
You’re a good soul
Strong and bold
And the world’s better because of you

Everybody get up
Everybody get up
Be loud, be kind, take your space
Everybody get up
Everybody get up
This is what respect looks like

I rewrote the song “Everything dies” by Type O Negative. And here are my new lyrics that are positive!
You are Capable
(You are Capable)
You are Amazing
(You are amazing)
You are beautiful
(you are beautiful)
Positivity
Can be hard
But I know you’re strong
And really brave
Start searching for something, joy can be found
Now start hoping
Life is tough sometimes
But you are too
There’s always hope
There’s always hope
Life gives you rain
And thunder
Use an umbrella!
Storms will pass!
Keep looking for something, love can be found
Keep on coping
Do not hate yourself
You are loved
There’s always hope
There’s always hope
There’s always hope
Light will come!
(Go You!)
Learn to sing and dance
Look up for the sun
You are Capable
(You are Capable)
You are Amazing
(You are amazing)
You are beautiful
(you are beautiful)
There’s always hope
There’s always hope
You are loved
Go you, go you!
There’s always hope
There’s always hope
Find that hope

I rewrote “Superman” by Eminem

I used to run fast when things got real,
Thought love was a weakness I shouldn’t feel.
Kept my guard high, my heart on mute,
Calling distance truth when it wasn’t the truth.

I learned the hard way, growth takes time,
You don’t heal scars by crossing lines.
People aren’t lessons you use and leave,
They’re not here to fix what you won’t believe.
I don’t promise more than I can give,
I don’t play games with how I live.
If I’m in, I’m present and clear,
If I’m out, I say it sincere.
I’m not flying above it all,
I’m standing grounded when I fall.
I don’t save myself by pushing you away,
I don’t disappear when feelings stay.
I’m not perfect, but I’m here,
Respect is strength, not fear.
I see you as a whole, not a moment,
Not a name I forget when the night is over.
Connection’s built, not taken fast,
It’s listening now, not owning the past.
I don’t confuse control with power,
Or attention with something louder.
If I care, I show it straight,
No mixed signals, no second plate.
I say what I mean, I mean what I say,
No silent exits, no runaways.
Honesty first, even when it’s hard,
That’s how respect leaves its mark.
I’m not flying above it all,
I’m standing grounded when I fall.
I don’t save myself by pushing you away,
I don’t disappear when feelings stay.
I’m not perfect, but I’m here,
Respect is strength, not fear.
Being real don’t make you weak,
It means you’re brave enough to speak.
Love ain’t chains, it ain’t a trap,
It’s choice and care and mutual ground.
I’m still here, no cape, no mask,
Just owning my future, learning my past.
If I walk away, I do it clean,
No damage left in-between.
I’m still here, standing clear,
Growth sounds better year by year.
No saviors, no villains, no games to win—
Just better endings than how things begin.

I am not able to post videos of our troop because my mum says that we have very strict privacy laws here in Europe and we would need each of their permission to be able to use their images. Instead I have created a collage and flyer that I think would be fun to hand out to bring more girls into girl scouts. The images reminded me of all the adventures that I have been on as part of girl scouts and the fun that I have had along the way!

Although I have been a Girl Scout for a long time, I did not have enough pictures to create an advertisement solely from them. Instead, I decided to create a collage that would inspire a girl like me to become a Girl Scout, using imagery to evoke the positive attributes I associate with Girl Scouts – strong female leadership, comradery, competence in wilderness survival and exploration, fighting for social change, and of course, cookies. I think it turned out pretty well – I attached it to this post.

I created a slide show that documented my girl scout journey from when I was a daisy to now as a cadette. It includes many amazing experiences and people. When I showed it to my troop, there were a few tears.

I created a slideshow with photos and anecdotes of my girl scout journey from since I was a brownie. It includes many fond memories and people in it. đŸ™‚

I made a slideshow of my Girl Scout experiences from being a Daisy until now (minus the covid years when we couldn’t do fun things). Fun trips, parades, giving back to the community and seniors in nursing homes, selling cookies, and earning badges are some things included.

I remade a perfume ad. The site is not letting me pot any files. The perfume ad looked more like an ad for movie so I changed it and added the perfume and clothes to the girl

I made a short slide show video of me and my troop. The pictures were of me and some of my closest friends in the troop, along with group photos of us when we were daisies and brownies, and troop trips.

It seems like a lot of people did slideshows, and I did too. I made one of all my friends being happy together, from when we were all tiny little kids in 1st grade to now.
