Monitor Award Activity – What Media do YOU Use?

Slice the Media Pie: Read pages 10 & 11 in your book. Go to http://imgflip.com/piemaker and make your own “media pie”. Add these slices – Internet, phone, books, movies, newspapers, games, television, magazines, music. Add any more that you can think of – or divide some  these (for instance internet could be Facebook, Snapchat, email, Zoom and Twitter).

Submit your pie to the group by making it private and downloading it to your computer and sharing the image in the comments below. (If you’re having trouble uploading the picture try cropping it to 800 px x 800 px so that the image is smaller.)

Take a look at some of the other entries and compare your media use to at least one other person.

This is my media pie. I never realized that I don’t play any mobile games or board games until I noticed that a lot of people had them on their media pies.

I broke down my internet use to individual apps so it was a little harder to compare to some others. I noticed someone had art programs vs how I have garageband for creating music.

i spend most of my time on Netflix, regular tv and snap chat, the rest of the time i am communicating or learning about other people via news, snap chat , or texts

I spend most of my media time watching shows or movies on Disney + or Netflix. I also play games such as Subway Surfers. Books is another way I like to fill my time.

I really like your chart because there are many similarity’s between our charts. I spend a lot of time watching tv and quite a bit of time on the internet.

I like that we both do similar things like gaming and YouTube, also think its cool that we differ in things like how much time we spend outside or reading books.

I found quite bit in common between our charts but also some differences. I don’t spend quite as much outside but do spend a lot of time on the internet and on YouTube. Good job!

My TikTok YouTube and Phone usage are close. I also use Netflix, Reading, Hulu, Crunchyroll, Video Games, and Movies less than I spend on TikTok and Youtube. Mine is different from Troop 1076 because I use my phone a little bit more and I don’t have music or magazines on my pi chart.

I like your pie chart and is very similar to mine because all I do is use the internet and I don’t spend much time texting or social media but usually instead of the news I prefer movies.

We reviewed what media we used during a virtual troop meeting by zoom (due to Covid). You tube was a large part of our usage. We talked about how many of the types of media the girls are using today didn’t exist 30 years ago. Then they all started talking about a game they like to play – when our meeting time was over, several girls stayed on zoom sharing their game. Very unexpected outcome! We also shared some of our favorite “shows”. Backyard Waterpark was a fav so when we get together again after Covid, we are going to build our own backyard waterpark as part of our end of year party.

I really like your pie chart because there is a lot in common between mine and yours I spends a lot of time on my phone and the internet but don’t really listen to music or read I also enjoy a lot of movies and watch them a lot. Good job!

I like that we all have around the same things on are pie charts and yet are pie charts are so different because we all like different things. I also think it’s cool that so many of us have the exact same amount of things but do different things on are devices and are spare time.

I really think its cool that you included your Chromebook because were all going to school virtually. I also see that we are similar in tv because Netflix is truly amazing and because we both spend a lot of time on you tube. I also like that are charts are different and you have Hulu and Gmail witch represent how alike and different every person is from each other, because I had texting and gaming and you might not enjoy those activities!

I spend about 50% of my media time on the internet using email, and social media. I spend about 6% of my TV time watching local and national news and the rest of the time on my favorite netflix shows.
